Press Release on the Recent Terrorist events in London and Glasgow

The British Arab Medical Association (BAMA) views with both regret and sadness the recent terrorism attempts which took place in London and Glasgow and particularly the fact that members of the medical profession of Muslim and Arabic origin have been implicated.

BAMA would like to emphasise the following:

1. The Executive Council of BAMA, on behalf of all its membership, utterly condemns all acts of indiscriminate violence. Such violence not only leads to tragic consequences for innocent victims and inflict immeasurable harm on the British population, but causes enormous damage to relations within the community as well as giving a distorted and false picture of the ideology and behaviour of Arabs and Muslims.

2. BAMA condemns all attempts to resort to violence in the UK as a means of expressing political opinions to international events and only supports expression of opinion by peaceful and democratic means.

3. The vast majority of the medical profession of Arab and ethnic minorities have been sincere and hardworking citizens who served their communities with honesty and dedication and totally refute any link or support to such atrocities.

4. We sincerely hope that serious and compassionate dialogue will follow between the relevant authorities and all sectors of the community to ensure an understanding of the concerns of the youth with the aim of eliminating all extremist ideology and behaviour.
